Changes in composition of judges of the Supreme Court

On the 30th of April, Skaidrite Lodzina, the senator of the Department of Civil Cases of the Senate, terminated execution of judicial duties. After 41 years spent in the system of justice, Skaidrite Lodzina has retired. Skaidrite Lodzina has been the judge of the Supreme Court since 1995 – for twelve years in the Chamber of Civil Cases and since 2007 – in the Department of Civil Cases of the Senate.

The judge Petersone acquaints students of Erasmus programme with mediation in Latvia

On Thursday, the 25th of April, forty students from Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and Italy visited the Supreme Court within project of Erasmus Intensive Programme implemented by the Business High School “Turiba”.

The State Control gives positive conclusion to the report of Supreme Court with no objections

The State Control during revision gained assurance that report of 2012 in all essential aspects gives clear and actual idea about financial position of the Supreme Court, its changes and results of operation. Conclusion on correctness of processing of report of the Supreme Court of 2012 is given with no objections.

Delegation of representatives of justice of Moldova gets acquainted with experience of the Supreme Court and the Board of Justice

On the 16th of April, delegation of representatives of justice of Moldova – chairs of courts, representatives of the Court Administration and the Ministry of Justice visited the Supreme Court to exchange experience and to get acquainted with Latvian court system, the Supreme Court and the Board of Justice.

Study of case-law in cases of racial, national and ethnic hatred is performed

According to the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination, which is binding to Latvia, concept “race” is realizable in broader meaning and it includes such motives of commitment of an offence, which are grounded by “ethnic” or “national” origination of an individual – compilation of case-law performed by the Supreme Court indicates.

The Saeima dismisses judges Lodzina and Treija from the post of a judge of the Supreme Court

Today, on the 11th of April, the Saeima decided to dismiss Skaidrite Lodzina, the senator of the Department of Civil Cases of the Senate, from the post of a judge of the Supreme Court by her own will.
