On the 26th of February, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court accepted an oath of Dita Voronova, the sworn bailiff of Vidzeme regional court.

The Department of Criminal Cases of the Senate: formulation of charges in tax cases and in determination of substantial harm causes problems to guides of proceedings

When analysing the most legally complex cases reviewed by the Department of Criminal Cases of the Senate in 2012, inter alia, cases that aroused social interest, it is necessary to admit that formulation of charges, inter alia – in tax cases and cases containing substantial harm as one of indicators of corpus delicti, causes problems to guides of proceedings, Peteris Dzalbe, the Chair of the Department of Criminal Cases of the Senate, said in the Plenary Session of the Supreme Court.

Professors from the University of Naples get acquainted with Latvian court system and the Supreme Court

On the 21st of February, professors of the University of Naples visited the Supreme Court. In conversation with Gunars Aigars, the vice-Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and the Chair of the Chamber of Civil Cases, and Zigmants Gencs, the Chair of the Department of Civil Cases of the Senate, they exchanged experience of review of civil cases in Latvia and Italy, as well as got acquainted with Latvian court system and legal system in general.

The judge Uminskis from regional court will execute duties of a judge of the Supreme Court

The Council of Justice instructed Aivars Uminskis, the judge of Riga regional court, to execute duties of a judge of the Chamber of Criminal Cases of the Supreme Court as from the 19th of February.

The President of the State will participate in opening of the Comments on the Constitution in the Supreme Court

On the 91st anniversary of adoption of the Satversme (the Constitution) of the Republic of Latvia, on the 15th of February, 2013, opening of the unique edition – “Comments on the Constitution of the Republic of Latvia. Chapter VI. The Court. Chapter VII. The State Control” will take place in the Supreme Court.
