The Supreme Court is glad about extension of number of students of Latvian higher educational institutions, who chose to begin career of a lawyer making first steps on their way this autumn. In order to extend understanding and interest of lawyers to-be to the Latvian court system and allow them to have a look into one of the most interesting, and at the same time one of the most difficult legal professions – post of the judge, the Supreme Court continues its tradition and organises Days of first-year students in the Supreme Court as from October until December.

Groups of first-year students both bachelors and masters of Law faculties and programmes of jurisprudence have been invited to the Supreme Court.

Students will be given an opportunity to meet Ivars Bickovics, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, to go to excursion in the Palace of Justice, to see court rooms and to visit the museum of the Supreme Court.

Days of first-year students have been organised by the Supreme Court for the fourth year already. Responsiveness for this offer was great – approximately 400 students visited the Supreme Court in 2009 and 350 students – in 2010 and 2011. There were students from the University of Latvia; Riga University named by J.Stradins; Business High School Turiba; Riga Graduate School of Law, Rezekne High School; University of Daugavpils, also from the College of Law and Business College. Students use opportunity to get useful information for studies and visit court hearings in the Supreme Court also after the Days of first-year students.
