The Supreme Court has sent collections of rulings of the Senate of 2007 to library of the European Court of Human Rights. Annotations and prefaces of verdicts and rulings of all three departaments of the Senate are translated into English, so wide range of readers can get acquainted with resolutions of the highest court of Latvia that are reflected in rulings.

Collections of rulings of the Department of Criminal Cases of the Senate and the Department of Administrative Cases of the Senate were published earlier, but the collection of verdicts and rulings of the Department of Civil Cases became available for readers only in the end of last December.

In collection of verdicts and rulings of the Department of Civil Cases of the Senate one hundred and twenty rulings are published, that have been chosen among all accepted rulings of the Department of Civil Cases of the Senate in year 2007. They may raise interest of lawyers and other interesents, as well as they are applicable for using in studying process in high schools of law. Rulings of the Supreme Court and interpretation of laws reflected in rulings are not mandatory for courts that review similar cases, but these rulings can serve as sample of recommendation of use of law standards.

The Chair of the Department of Civil Cases Valerijans Jonikans indicates that the Senate, by publishing rulings, hopes to get feedback and raise a discussion, that could be great contribution in further development of juridical thought and judicature. Many resolutions established in rulings were created as a result of continuous discussions of judges, looking for the most correct and respective variant of interpretation of law standarts.

Rulings are grouped in 15 chapters by categories of cases, taking for basis structure of the Civil law and specific role of law standards in jurisprudence of present days. In verdicts published in collection there are also resolutions of general human rights and children rights in the Republic of Latvia and contiguity of these questions with use of standards of Civil law in Latvian jurisprudence, while reviewing concrete cases and indications for compliance of national legislation with common principles of European law.

Beside every ruling there is one or more theses, that in concentrated and generalized form reflect resolution worked out in ruling, about use or interpretation of concrete law standard. In appendix of the collection 6 different indicēs are published, that will make search of information easier.

Compilers of the collection of verdicts and rulings of the Department of Civil Cases of the Senate is ex-senator, Head of Division of Complaints of the Supreme Court Rolands Krauze and assistant of senator of the Department of Civil Cases Zinaida Indruna.

Collections of rulings of the Senate have been published by Court House Agency and in its book stalls collection of rulings of the Department of Civil Cases costs 24,89 lats.

Tradition of publishing ruling of the Senate existed in prewar Latvia and it has been continued after restoration of independence of Latvia, starting from year 1996.
