This week, 5-8 October, Ivars Bickovics, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, participates in the 58th Congress of the International Association of Judges, which has been held in Barcelona, Spain.

Topics of discussion of the International Association of Judges this year concern relation between effective administration of courts and independence of judges in delivery of justice.

Study committees will also discuss topical issues on expert evidence and juvenile justice, and reasons for dismissals of workers.

There will also be held single meeting of group of Associations of European Judges.

International Association of Judges was founded in 1953.gadā. It is professional, non-political international organization, which unites national associations of judges. The main goal is to promote independence of judges. Currently, the Association includes 83 national organizations from five continents.
