Having reached maximum age to hold a judicial office, on 19 November term of judicial powers of Zigmants Gencs, the Chair of the Department of Civil Cases of the Supreme Court expired.

Zigmants Gencs left an office of a judge held for 38 years, and 36 of those were served in the Supreme Court. Since foundation of the Senate in the Supreme Court in 1995, he had been a judge in cassation instance, in 2010 was elected to the office of the Chair of the Department of Civil Cases of the Senate.

Zigmants Gencs is one of the most experienced professionals of civil law, in particular, in inheritance law.  Published books “Legacy management”, “Succession. Scientifically practical comment”, “Comments on the Civil Law. Part Two. Inheritance Law (Section 655-686)”. Co-authors of comments on the Civil Procedure Law and Part Two of the comments on the Civil Procedure Law.

Granted the Award of the Cabinet of Ministers for elaboration of the comments on the Civil Law, and Mark of Distinction of the System of Justice of 2nd rank. In 2010, in collective vote was nominated as the Person of the Year of the Supreme Court.
