On the Proclamation Day of the Republic of Latvia, November 18, Valerijans Jonikans, Judge of the Department of Civil Cases of the Supreme Court, and Ilze Skultane, Judge of the Department of Administrative Cases, received the highest state awards at the ceremony that took place at the Riga Castle.

The judges were awarded with the Order of the Three Stars, Class IV.

Valerijans Jonikans has been awarded for decent and selfless service in the judicial system, for important contribution to the development of the Supreme Court and the whole judicial system of Latvia, for strengthening the democracy and the rule of law and the promotion of the education and professionalism of officials belonging to the judicial system.

Ilze Skultane has received an award for important contribution to the development of the Supreme Court and the judicial system of Latvia, for strengthening the democracy and the rule of law in the country, as well as for special contribution to the field of social rights and promotion of the education and professionalism of officials belonging to the judicial system.

The colleagues of the Supreme Court congratulated the award recipients during a solemn celebration on 17 November.
