The Supreme Court has announced two vacancies – judges of district (city) and regional courts are given the opportunity to apply for exchange of experience at the Supreme Court and for a certain period of time to perform the duties of a legal research counsel. One vacancy is announced for the position of a legal research counsel in the Division on Case-law and Research, the other – in the Department of Administrative Cases.

During the exchange of experience, one judge will have the opportunity to work for a period of four to six months in the Division of Case-law and Research of the Supreme Court, and the other – to hold the position of a legal research counsel in the Department of Administrative Cases for almost six months.

The exchange of experience is organized in accordance with the procedure provided for in Section 861 of the Law "On Judicial Power", namely, the judge is assigned to the Supreme Court for a fixed term based on the permission of a chair of the court. The judge's remuneration is retained during the exchange of experience and the time worked is credited to the length of the judge's term of office.

The judge, who will work in the Division of Case-law and Research, will investigate, analyse and summarize the case-law of the courts of Latvia, the courts of other countries, as well as international institutions, will conduct research work on issues of national, European Union and international law and will select examples of case-law. Initial preference will be given to a candidate specializing in criminal law.

In turn, the judge, who will execute duties of a legal research counsel in the Department of Administrative Cases, will analyse the trends of case-law, prepare opinions on legal issues, prepare draft decisions and participate in the preparation of case-law summaries and in the development of research.

Candidates for the position in the Department of Administrative Cases must apply until November 26, and in the Division of Case-law and Research – until December 1.

The purpose of the exchange of experience is to facilitate judicial dialogue and to enable judges to improve their professional knowledge.
