On Tuesday, 17 May, ten judges of lower courts and five prosecutors from France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, Slovenia, Romania, Finland and Portugal visited the Supreme Court on study visit, to get familiarised with work of Latvian highest court instance and Latvian Council for the Judiciary, and share their experience.

Participants of the visit met Ivars Bickovics, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and the Chair of the Council for the Judiciary. He told guests about Latvian court system and reforms being currently implemented; the Supreme Court of Latvia as the highest court instance; composition and authority of the Council for the Judiciary, and outlined work of institutions of judicial self-government.   

Guests also visited the museum of the Supreme Court and walked over the historical Palace of Justice.  

Judicial officials came two Latvia on a two-week visit organised by the Latvian Judicial Training Centre in cooperation with the European Judicial Training Network. During the visit they will visit other judicial and public administration institutions as well.
