Almost fifty judges and employees of the Supreme Administrative Court of Lithuania visited the Supreme Court on 25 September to get acquainted with work of the highest court instance of Latvia and to share their experience. Delegation of guests was headed by Ricardas Piliciauskas, the President of the Court.

Judges of the Supreme Administrative Court of Lithuania met colleagues – judges of the Department of Administrative Cases of the Supreme Court of Latvia. In Lithuania, there is two-level court system in administrative procedure, in Latvia – that of three levels, and discussion of judges of both countries touched on differences of these systems and advantages of each of those, and other issues. 

Employees of the Office of the President and the Chancery of the Supreme Administrative Court of Lithuania met Heads of Administration and Chancery of the Supreme Court. However, assistants to judges of the Department of Administrative Cases and employees of the Division of Case-law met Lithuanian colleagues – assistants to judges and employees of the Legal Research and Information Department. Latvian representatives were particularly interested in Lithuanian experience regarding work of this department, since it has been planned to establish analytical research unit in the Supreme Court of Latvia for support of the cassation instance.

Guests also visited the museum of the Supreme Court and got familiarised with historical Palace of Justice. Ivars Bickovics, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, presented to colleagues special gift as the keepsake from Latvia – edition of the Constitution of the Republic of Latvia in eight languages, inter alia, in Lithuanian language.
