On November 19, at the festive event dedicated to the 95th anniversary of the Ministry of Justice, Inara Garda, the senator of the Department of Civil Cases of the Senate of the Supreme Court was awarded with Mark of Distinction of the System of Justice. Both she and Inguna Radzevica, the senator of the Department of Criminal Cases of the Senate, were awarded with the Mark of Distinction of the Second Class for significant contribution to strengthening of democracy and rule of law.

Daina Zomerfelde, the Head of the chancery of the Chamber of Criminal Cases, was awarded with the Mark of Distinction of the System of Justice of the Third Class for exemplary, decent and creative execution of professional responsibilities.

Ivars Bickovics, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, when addressing muster, mentioned that it was jubilee event in some way, as it was the 5th anniversary of special award of the System of Justice – of the Mark of Distinction, which was developed jointly by the Ministry of Justice, the Supreme Court and the Office of the Prosecutor General five years ago, when awaiting for the 90th anniversary of the Latvian State and its system of justice. During five years, the highest award of the system of justice had been granted to 88 employees, who have been working in the system of justice, and in this ceremony the award was given to 33 individuals working in the system of justice, who deserved it with their decent work for the sake of system of justice and the Latvian State.

“Not the state creates people, but people create the state. People are our greatest value. When greeting our state, evaluating its growth and development, we evaluate concrete good works done by concrete people and we feel proud of them”, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court said.

Marks of Distinction of the System of Justice were given in this festive event also to several chairs of courts, prosecutors, sworn advocates, sworn bailiffs and employees of the Ministry of Justice. Mark of Distinction of the highest – the First Class – was granted to Lidija Lasmane-Doronina, human rights defender, for outstanding lifelong contribution to strengthening of democracy and rule of law in Latvia and in the world.
