On 25 September, when participating in the ceremonial sitting and greeting the Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Latvia on the 25th anniversary of its establishment, Ivars Bickovics, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, reminded that the Prosecutor’s Office is a part of the judicial system, and daily routine and holidays of the Prosecutor’s Office are also daily routine and holidays of the judicial system.

The history of the Prosecutor’s Office is a history of the judicial system as well – the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court pointed out, reminding of time of foundation of the State of Latvia, when prosecutors worked in courts, and restoration of independence of the Republic of Latvia in 90’s of the last century, when the Prosecutor’s Office was established anew.  “All stages of the new judicial system of the state were in single chain in civil daring. Latvian courts did not split and accepted only cases investigated by the Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Latvia, and public accusation was maintained only by prosecutors of the Republic of Latvia,” the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court reminded, stressing that courts and the Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Latvia then showed an example of how the state should act in critical moment.

The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court wished so that new generation, which entered Latvian judicial system after 25 years, would respect principles implemented in the Prosecutor’s Office by its founders, both when founding the State of Latvia, and restoring independence, and these principles must be highly evaluated.
