With the decision of the Council for the Judiciary of 8 June, Ludmila Polakova and Janis Tiltins, judges of the Supreme Court, are instructed to discharge judicial duties in Riga regional court.

the Council for the Judiciary adopted the decision upon joint proposal of the Minister of Justice and the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, who, in turn, acted in accordance with procedure established in the law “On Judicial Power”.

Clause 742 of Transitional Provisions of the law states that the Council for the Judiciary instructs the judge, who is not transferred to the office of the judge of the department of the Supreme Court until expiration of term of operation of the chamber, to discharge judicial duties in another appellate instance court. The judge receives salary and extra payment for length of service determined to him or her as to the judge of the Supreme Court.

The Chamber of Criminal Cases of the Supreme Court terminated its operation on 31 December 2014.
