As from 29 September, Dzintra Amerika, the judge of the Administrative regional court, discharges duties of a judge in the Department of Administrative Cases of the Supreme Court for the term of a vacancy of a judge.

The Supreme Court announced a competition to substitute the judge of the Supreme Court, because Dace Mita, the judge of the Department of Administrative Cases, is in long-term temporary absence. Four applications were received in the competition, and, having assessed them, the meeting of judges of the Department of Administrative Cases decided to invite Dzintra Amerika to the vacancy of the judge being temporarily absent.

Dzintra Amerika has acquired Master’s degree in social sciences at the University of Latvia, and has worked as a judge for 10 years. Since 2010, she has been a judge of the Administrative regional court, previously – a judge of the Administrative district court.

In accordance with Section 79 of the law “On Judicial Power”, during a vacancy of a judge of the Supreme Court, the Council for the Judiciary, upon recommendation of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and receipt of positive statement of the Judicial Qualification Committee, may instruct the judge of a regional court to substitute this judge for the term not exceeding two years.
