Valerijans Jonikans, Judge of the Department of Civil Cases, and Ilze Skultane, Judge of the Department of Administrative Cases, were awarded the highest state award – the Order of the Three Stars – for meritorious service to Latvia. The Order of Chapters has awarded the judges with the Order of the 4th class.

Valerijans Jonikans started working as a judge 40 years ago; he has been working at the Supreme Court since 1999. He was the first Chair of the Department of Administrative Cases of the Supreme Court in 2003-2007 and three years later became the Chair of the Department of Civil Cases.

Ilze Skultane has been serving as a judge for 33 years. She was a judge of the first composition of the Constitutional Court in 1996-2004, since 2004 – the judge of the Department of Administrative Cases of the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court is glad about such an evaluation of the work of judges. So far, eight judges of the Supreme Court have received the Order of the Three Stars, but four judges and court employees – the Cross of Recognition.
