On the 30th of April, Skaidrite Lodzina, the senator of the Department of Civil Cases of the Senate, terminated execution of judicial duties. After 41 years spent in the system of justice, Skaidrite Lodzina has retired.

Skaidrite Lodzina has been the judge of the Supreme Court since 1995 – for twelve years in the Chamber of Civil Cases and since 2007 – in the Department of Civil Cases of the Senate.

With decision of the general meeting of senators of the Department of Civil Cases of the Senate, Valerijs Maksimovs, the judge of the Chamber of Civil Cases of the Supreme Court, is appointed in the post of a senator of the Department of Civil Cases of the Senate. He will start his work in the post of a senator on the 2nd of May.

Valerijs Maksimovs was born in 1965. In 1989, he graduated the Faculty of Law of the University of Latvia and has worked in the post of a judge since 1990. He had been a judge in Riga city Vidzeme suburb court, Riga regional court, and since 2010 – in the Chamber of Civil Cases of the Supreme Court.

In its turn, the Board of Justice instructed Inese Grauda, the judge of Riga regional court, to execute duties of a judge of the Chamber of Civil Cases of the Supreme Court for the term of a vacancy of a judge. I.Grauda has worked as a judge since 1994, and since 2003 – in Riga regional court.

Pursuant to the Paragraph Two Section 79 of the law “On Judicial Power”, during the temporary absence or vacancy of a judge of a Court Chamber, the Board of Justicemay instruct, pursuant to the recommendation of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and upon the receipt of a positive statement of the Judicial Qualification Board, for a period not exceeding two years the Honoured Judge of the Supreme Court or a judge of a regional court to substitute him or her.
