Today and tomorrow, 26-27 November, Ivars Bickovics, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, participates in annual conference of the Network of the Presidents of the Supreme Judicial Courts of the European Union, which is held in Dublin this year.

Presidents of the Supreme Courts will discuss two fundamental topics at the conference of this year. The first issue concerns relationship between national courts and the European Court of Human Rights.

The second issue concerns filtering of appeals in the cassation instance. Rimvydas Norkus, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Lithuania, will present introductory report on issue, which is topical for all Supreme Courts of the European Union, namely, mechanisms of refusals to hear cases in the cassation instance.

The purpose of the Network of the Presidents of the Supreme Judicial Courts of the European Union is to promote exchange of opinions and experience of the Supreme Courts regarding case-law, organisation and functions of highest courts, in particular, related to judicial activities in application of legal provisions of the law of the European Union.
