On Thursday, September 14, Fikrat Mammadov, Minister of Justice of Azerbaijan, representatives of Ministry of Justice and Javanshir Akhundov, Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Latvia, visited the Supreme Court. Ivars Bickovics, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, and Solvita Harbacevica, Head of the Secretariat of the Council for the Judiciary, introduced the guests with the work and functions of the Supreme Court and the Council for the Judiciary, as well as spoke about the judicial reform in Latvia. Delegations discussed similarities and differences in judicial systems of both countries. Representatives of Azerbaijan expressed particular interest in issues related to the selection and evaluation of judges.

As the conclusion of their visit, guests looked at the premises of the Palace of Justice - the courtroom and the Supreme Court Museum.

The Azerbaijan delegation arrived on a working visit to Latvia to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the field of justice. During the visit, the delegation visited the Ministry of Justice, where the Ministers of Justice of both countries signed a Memorandum of Understanding on co-operation between the Ministries of Justice of Latvia and Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijan representatives will also visit Riga Regional Court and the State Probation Service.

The visit of the Azerbaijan delegation to Latvia was organized by the Ministry of Justice in co-operation with the Court Administration.
