The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court shall advance candidacy of Aigars Strupiss, the candidate for a doctor’s degree in law, to the Saeima (Parliament) for confirmation in the office of a judge of the Supreme Court to unlimited term of office.  

Having assessed candidacy of Aigars Strupiss in two rounds of open competition for selection of candidates to the office of a judge of the Supreme Court and having received positive statement of the Judicial Qualifications Committee, the committee for selection of competition pretenders considered him to be appropriate for the office of a judge of the Supreme Court Department of Civil Cases.  

Aigars Strupiss has experience of more than 20 years in academic and research work in field of law and practical jurisprudence, as well as in development of drafts of legal acts, which had been performed in status of independent expert. A.Strupiss also has long-term experience in cooperation with different public institutions and international organisations, at present he has been member of work group on the Commercial Law of the Ministry of Justice and member of the Consultative Council of the Register of Enterprises.

Aigars Strupiss received lawyer’s diploma at the Faculty of Law of the University of Latvia in 1990 and at present he studies in doctoral programme.

The competition for the office of a judge of the Supreme Court was held in accordance with Paragraph Three Section 51 of the law “On Judicial Power”. In open competition announced two candidates applied for the office of a judge of the Supreme Court Department of civil Cases, but one of them revoked his candidacy prior to passing of an exam.
